About Me
John Hopkinson is passionate about creating images.

I trained as an engineer and worked in industry for many years, spending 25 years in sales and marketing as a product manager supporting the aerospace and defence markets across Europe and the USA.
My interest and passion has always been photography.
My principle is KISS (keep it simple stupid) I don’t go for over complicated lighting arrays or dozens of assistants. Capturing an image is about spontaneity. Cameras and equipment just get in the way, so less is more.
My work is influenced by my background in art photography and my acceptance of state of the art technology. I do not enter into the trivial arguments about film v digital. Modern technology is a tool that allows me to produce images that I could not have produced 5 years ago. I work in colour, sometimes distorted to convey a mood. I prefer black & white because of its beauty, feel and fundamental abstractness. An old photographer once told me that “if you shoot in colour you will see the colour of subjects’ clothes but if you shoot in black and white you will see the colour of their soul”
My images are designed to expose people's natural beauty and to express the soul of person.
